I was reading insulation pad or not? and got to thinking about stand design, while we were on the topic of correctly supporting a tank.
A fish store near me supports all it's stock tanks (10 gallon tanks) on just two rails, running along the long edges of the tank. The short edges of the tank are not supported. The smaller tanks are more overbuilt than the larger ones, so this is managable. At what size tank would you expect this method to start failing?
