The Best DIY Venturi

I just found this excellent [acronym:43e44061ee="Do it yourself"]DIY[/acronym:43e44061ee] Venturi! “Don W” from Reef Frontiers originally posted his made from acrylic rod. I couldn’t find acrylic rod so I made mine out of [acronym:43e44061ee="Plastic pipe"]PVC[/acronym:43e44061ee] filled with a 2-part material from www.sanitred.com called Quick Patch. I simply mixed it, poured it into a piece of ¾” [acronym:43e44061ee="Plastic pipe"]PVC[/acronym:43e44061ee] and it cured solid in less than 2 min. Popped it into a lathe and drilled it with a tapered drill bit from both sides.

The coolest thing is that you can make a venturi out of any inlet fitting that comes with your pump; like a barbed fitting or even a worthless venturi.

This is the very best venturi I have ever used. It certainly beats any venturi that comes with a pump. These things are so easy to make you can make smaller or bigger ones and it only takes about 10 min to make.

Here are my pics:

Very interesting, and sounds pretty simple! I couldn't see your pics on imagestation.com... apparently need an account? *shrug*

Will you be using this for a skimmer? [acronym:296dfd779a="In my opinion"]IMO[/acronym:296dfd779a], for a [acronym:296dfd779a="Do it yourself"]DIY[/acronym:296dfd779a] skimmer I would put the air intake before the pump impeller, let the impeller mash the bubbles as small as possible, also increases the protien contact time. but of course all that depends on your design (and if this is even for a skimmer! hehe)

I had no prob viewing and I am not a member. Nice idea, I did something similar myself, took some tweaking though.

It's for a skimmer that I'm planning on building; actually 1 of 3. Don W from Reef Frontiers also posted a very cool link RE: [acronym:f7d0754676="Do it yourself"]DIY[/acronym:f7d0754676] Needle Wheel
http://www.reeffrontiers.com/forums/...ead.php?t=4861

I am in the middle of making one of those to drop into a DP-560 pump also using this venturi. Don is a "purdy fart smeller" to come up with both designs.
