Upgrade Sump return

So this is my new sump return pump for my DIY overflow/trickle filter system.
I had a smaller pump that was rated at 630 GPH. I wanted more flow and purchased the Aqueon 4500. Put a check valve on it just in case of a power outage. Also attached a ball valve to control the intake flow.

I believe it is preferable to place a ball valve on the output of the pump and not the intake. From what I understand, cavitation caused by restricting the intake will cause more damage to the pump than restricting the output. You can always add a "T" in conjunction with the ball valve on the output and redirect some of the water back into the sump.

Easy switch. I didn't use any glue so I can just put it on the output.
Was asking myself if that was gonna happen so I posted on here.
Thanks for the info.

Upgrade Sump return

I'm going to have to place the T-junction under the check valve.
