Worried about Stained Stand

I just used Minwax Wood Finish to Stain my stand on Wed I only used one Coat. The Dry time is 8 hours and today is friday. The stand does not feel wet or rub off when I put my fingers on it. The stand still has a smell to it so is it safe to go ahead and set up my tank with SW and LR.

IME, freshly stained furniture gives off a slight odor for a few weeks. However, if the smell is extremely noticeable, I would wait another day AND, either run the air conditioner, or open the windows and use a fan to suck air out of the room. The dry time stated on the can is an average and may not take into consideration the humid weather we have all been having. Even though the stand may feel dry, there might still be some wet spots - especially in the corners.

BTW, did you apply a few coats of polyuethane finish? I would highly recommend it, especially if you're using the stand for SW - salt will ruin the finish of unprotected stained wood. I put three coats of Minwax satin poly on my stand with a light sanding between coats. It took an extra day and a half, but it was worth it - it looks great and water just beads up on the surface.
