ballasts

whats the best ballast to get for a 175watt mh. from the ones on www.bulbsa2z.com or www.ahsupply.com. best value also.

The ballasts at www.ahsupply.com are not for MH but for PC florecents. Make sure you get a ballast designed for MH.

The best ballast is an electronic one. They are much more expensive than core and coil type but run more efficiently and are much cooler.

is more wattage on metal halides nessaserly better. which is best, 175, 250, or 400?

The deeper your tank is the higher wattage you need to get the light to penetrate down into the tank.

What size tank are you trying to light?

Not sure why I didn't move it before now

In any lighting scheme, more is not necessarily better, although it usually is. I would not, for instance, put a 400W MH on a 10g nano reef...As fishfreek said, which wattage is best, will depend on how deep the tank is.

im putting it on a standard 75 gallon. what wattage do you recommend. also could someone respond to the post i made before the wattage question. im dying to know what you guys think of that deal.
