This is how small business owners stay in business. Half the reason we expand is because we are forced to when it comes down to tax time. Deductions are there for a reason and anyone would be a fool to ignore them. A good accountant will pay for himself 4 times over.
I'm just suggesting a way to cut through the bull. As it now stands, the tax on your AGI is artificially high and YOU are forced to spend hours trying to figure out which deductions you can take...or you are are forced to pay someone to do it for you. I say eliminate the deductions and simply charge something close to the tax you would have paid after taking the deductions. This would eliminate alot of fraud too.

I'm probably not the person to be commenting on taxes ATM since my hubby and I owe $300 this year. Even with the child credit and what have you. My status is married, but withold at the higher single rate...no deductions. I think he's claiming married and 4 so my guess is, he didn't pay enough taxes out of his check. It's not like we're rich or anything...gee with both of us working full time we proabably make roughly 80-90 thousand a year. It's a shame that our government insists on income confiscation like this. Yes, I would vote in a flat tax in a heartbeat.....no politician has had the guts to try it....a healthy spending cut couldn't hurt either. Our government spends too much money on absolute crap. Just my rant for the day (since we just had to write a check to Big Brother after paying him all year.....greedy b*****d)!

Each quarter when I mail out their estimated tax check, I cringe. They are both small business owners and I maintain the books and the taxes for my mothers business and their personal finances. This year was the first year that they have actually been able to get a tax return. Every year prior they usually have to pay an additional LARGE chunk in April. Today I have to write out the estimated check for this quater. *sigh* I hate taxes but they are a necessity. If we didn't have them we wouldn't have things such as roads.

I like the ideal of a national sales tax due to the fact that people who work here illegally or get paid under the table still have to purchase items and that would force them to pay taxes.

Super rich like to spend money and would pay there fair share of taxes. People who make money should not be penalized.

I paid a lot more in taxes during the year than last year and expected some back but ended up paying more. I thought FL has only a sales tax and no income tax. Is this correct?

Brenden, yer not the only one that Uncle Sam took to the cleaners this year.

in my case, its the second year in a row. and we double checked our taxes with another person. somehow my wife and I make just enough to get hosed. If we weren't married, we'd get money back.
No kids...that's likely where we missed out the most.

So this year we're having some extra withheld from every pay period, so we might just break even!

Well let me tell you how bad it is. I paid $30k more in taxes this year than last year. I almost lost it when the tax guy told me I still owed! I think I am going to sell everything quit my job and live on the street.

you are correct, Florida has no state tax yet.

Can thank the dude from Michigan driving 40 in the left lane for that.
