Almost got a goldy today....

I saw the most adooorable fish. At petsmart no less. There was a young ryu or a very nice fantail baby about two inches..
picture:

gleaming white and nearly a pearlscale, draping veils of fin
a red saddle and one red spot at tail base..

and.. the upper eye LIDs only and the LIPs were red...

one in a million!! And that tanks occupants were on sale.

I was helping my son look through tanks and answering some of his questions
..someone bought her (prolly him)! And goldy keepers grab on to something.
The buyer had bagged this specimin, two oranda and another large fantail, 2 med coments and a 8 inch koi.
They were to go in the pond "to replace the wuns thet didn't make the winter throo" (here is south of seattle). If I didn't have to retrieve my son who was walking off with his boxed 5 gallon I'd have askeedd her right then..how much to hand me her and choose any other you wish on my treat? I lost track of the person by the time we returned the cretin was gone! I was watching a 3 inch feeder fish literally eat a 5 lionhead alive as I searched the tanks for another... one in a million..2 inches..in a Koi pond....

Mega-pet stores prolly should not be allowed to sell animals as retail "items".

Yeah , I do
Usually I can look away....
I remember how my foiur years helping keep koi and golds optimim was like work..heh. Those were summers I wanted the beach more than money. My parents were using me for brownie points. And after so many passed through my hands, I got jaded as kids are wont to do.

Awww..and this fish was just soo adorable. I have never seen one whose markings mezmerized me. I have set markings myself on countless koi (actually nearer to a count..of about 50 koi and 15 oranda I worked with the whole time) and never saw those before in away that it could give a 5 step idea. I mean if one could set those markings it would almost be a new breed. And soon to be carp chow. This is like drum the heels kinda frustration of "if". Even if it survived, the clever markings cannot be seen from above.
