I'm sitting through a training class in work, and I hear this weird word. It sounded like "equilbration." The person in charge was talking about equilibrating the equipment while reading from his binder, but there was a typo. Equilibration was spelled equilbration, and he read it like it was spelled. That was fine, but then everyone else started pronouncing it "equilbration." It grated on me until I finally said something to someone. He had just asked me if I was able to "equilbrate" the equipment, and I said, "The word is 'equilIbrate." It was like the spawn of Satan dropped into the room and farted fire right in front of everyone. Long story short, I was arguing with the whole training class. I was being told the most ridiculous things about the word. I finally had to stop everyone, go to the computer, and look up the word on dictionary.com. I was right, but I felt like I just got into an argument with my wife--like it would not be forgotten.

Moral of the story? I'm going nucking futs.

Don't worry - you did the right thing! This is a pet peeve of mine, and when you get in a group and everyone sortof learns the word together, incorrectly, they will all say it wrong together, and spread the word around since if everyone is saying it that way it "must" be right. You did them a favor.

In fact, I recommend that you go to a LIBARY and read about the EQUILBRATION of NUCULAR devices!!! :P :P :P

Good for you for speaking up. It always amazes me when a group of people will all sit quiet rather than comfront someone who is spouting misinformation.

I've seen programs where they set up an experiment. They were in a group, and were all looking at the same thing. Everyone in the room except one person would give an obvious incorrect answer. They wanted to see if the person would cave in and go with the group or insist everyone else was wrong. They got some priveless looks from the subject. Re-checking and re-checking to make sure that they saw what they did.
