Completely agree jeta. Use my hands to transfer fish all the time. Watch the show. When they are at the wholesaler in LA they kinda reek havoc in there.

I couldn't watch it because I don't have cable. Most likely it will eventually become available on netflix. However, I happened to get my bearded dragon, Dragos, at the same time the show was on.

I watched Episode 2, thinking that just MAYBE I would see something explaining the debut debacle. I was mistaken, as a matter of fact they only furthered my distaste for their show. When I saw their install vehicles, I had hope that maybe the hoses I saw in the debut were being fed from one of their trucks with a water tank filled with RODI. In this weeks episode, the casino tank install was having temperature issues. The water was above ninety degrees, which the guys explained by saying they only had access to a hot water line from the hotel. At this point there were 21 boxes full of fish sitting in a hotel lobby waiting to go into this death camp, their solution? Dump ice from the hotels ice machines into the tank. I also saw that they dump salt into the tank during filling and as soon as the salinity and temp are correct they dump the fish into the tank. Surely these guys have to know the salt continues dissolving and the salinity continues to rise for another day. I want to know how many fish die after the first month in this tank, the tanks are grossly overloaded considering there is absolutely no biological filter to speak of. If this wasn't bad enough, the idiots turned a phone booth into an aquarium. Cool idea, if it was stocked properly. I don't know the exact dimensions of a phone booth, but I am certain that multiple tangs have no business in it. In summary, I have seen no glimpse of hope for this show. The crews antics are all staged, poorly at that, and the message they promote is that wealthy individuals get what they want, no matter the impact on the ecosystem and the hobby in general. This entire show is fuel for the fire of those groups that want our hobby outlawed. Tanked is officially off my DVR list, and I plan on writing to animal planet to thank them for all the bad publicity for responsible fish and reef keepers. Just my $0.02.

Well RO/DI water is really only necessary if the tank is going to be a reef. If it's a fowlr tank, then the only bad thing is it'll let algae grow.

^ While you're at it, write Discovery and let them know how American Choppers doesn't talk about proper motorcycle safety practices.... and write ABC and let them know how Extreme Makeover Home Edition doesn't talk about proper building code adherence, etc. The fact is, that show isn't designed to teach or anything like that. To be completely honest, I doubt I would watch it if it talked about cycling, feeding, all this stuff that everyone seems to be upset with.

If you paid six figures for a tank, would you want anything but the best? I would like a count of how many of these fish don't make it through the first month, I would be willing to bet the number is significant. Their clients are the type that probably just continue to shell out the money for losses.

I don't have an issue that they don't TEACH proper technique, I have an issue that they don't PRACTICE it. American choppers does, as they point out multiple times that most of their show bikes aren't street legal, and explain why. As far as home makeover, they don't go over code, but they follow it. You assume watching these shows that they are doing things right, the difference is the average viewer assumes what they see on Tanked is correct as well, when it obviously is not. At the same time, the average viewer watching tanked has no knowledge of the subject matter. This only encourages the notion that keeping aquariums is easy and can be done by anyone with little to no effort or research.

The point is that this is on animal planet - which is usually pretty good about going over the care and maintenance of animals. They barely even talk about the fish and make it seem like aquarium keeping is as easy as just adding water. I've watched animal planet for years and they used to have great programming but it looks like they are getting sucked into crappy reality television like everyone else. The show seems like it's main focus is on the employees (who aren't that funny or interesting for that matter) rather than the animals involved - and being animal planet, the viewers would expect this. And while you say it is the same with choppers and building code - most people that see those shows and decide " wow, I want to buy a motorcycle!" obviously they have to learn to operate and get a licence to be approved to even ride one. Main point is, this show is involving live animals and unfortunatly, people aren't required to get a licence or even learn how to care for these animals before they decide " I can dump water in a tank and throw fish in, that looks easy"
