Anyone know traffic laws in CA, GA, FL,NY, PA?

Hey-

I trying to look up the length of time someone from another country, Japan, can use their International Driver's Permit in California, Georgia, Florida, New York, and Pennsylvania.

I know it expires a year after it is issued but apparently each state has different rules on how long it is valid from when you enter the country.

So if anyone works for a rental car agency or is a traffic cop in one of these states, please let me know. I keep searching on the internet but I cant find it anywhere and then I look at each states DMV websites it doesnt have the information.

Thanks.

International Driving Permits

The State of California does not recognize an International Driving Permit (IDP) as a valid driver license. California does recognize a valid driver license that is issued by a foreign jurisdiction (country, state, territory) of which the license holder is a resident.
The IDP is only a translation of information contained on a person’s foreign driver license and is not required to operate a motor vehicle in California. Citations issued to a person in California who has an IDP, but does not have a California driver license will be placed on the Department of Motor Vehicle database.
The IDP is also called an International Driver License, International License, etc.
For more information about travel and driver licensing requirements outside of the US, visit the US State Department Road Safety Overseas website at: http://travel.state.gov/road_safety.html
quick google search found that.

in cali you cant use a permit to drive..... you have to be fully licensed in what ever country it seems.

Yea that's what I found on their DMV website.

I guess it means as long as you have your country's driver's liscense you can drive in california and you dont really need a International Driver's permit. I wonder what the police officer would say if he pulled someone over, license and registration, and he was handed a Japanese driver's license without the international driver's permit....

Georgia recognizes valid driver licenses issued to and held by residents of other countries as long as the "Out Of Country" license is valid (not expired). Generally, you may drive in Georgia for up to one year on a valid foreign or International license.

Florida accepts them as long as they are valid. Expires in 1 year.
