Found this really cool book on the history of aquariums. First published in German in 2003 and first published in English in 2005.

The Ocean at Home: An Illustrated History of the Aquarium.

http://www.amazon.ca/The-Ocean-Home-Illustrated-Aquarium/dp/1568985029

It has the feel of a book written before 1950, but some of the illustrations our very good.

Here’s something I found on the web.
Victorian Fish Tanks

Do you know of any good books or web sites that touch on the history of aquariums?

That's awesome. One time I bought a book at my library. It's about frogs with color plates and it was made in 1909.

those type tanks really aren't in my decor range for my home ,
now if I had a fancy style house like the rich and famous that would be right down my ally, I bet those type of tanks cost a small fortune and I would no idea what to stock it with, now if I could turn a old VW bug into a tank that would be sick , or even a old vintage gas pump

I've only ever seen a Victorian tank on a pedestal once and I forgot how much it was.
