broken tank

during moving home broke the corners of one of my tanks (40g) so i got to cut it now.
now do i cut the couple of centimeters so only lose a of litres or do i convert to my 1st nano tank (besides this was a spare tank and i got it free) the tank is 3ft wide 15in deep and 18 high so pls suggest sizes
