If I took bio max, rings whatever for say my African tank and seeded the new Fluval C4 with those rings and everything remained the same. Could those media rings effect pH?

I ask because a PetSmart employee said to me that yes, it will cause my pH to rise to 8.0-8.2 or whatever pH my African cichlid is at there for not a good idea to seed my filter with anything from my cichlid tank.

I learned my lesson before so I just said thank you for the info and walked out of the store baffled. Could he be right? I never thought of it...

Never heard of such a thing! You could have asked ten employee's from the same store and got ten different answers!

If Mr. Miyagi taught me anything it's that there is "no such thing bad student, only bad teacher: teacher say, student do. All of the nonsense they're regurgitating they learned from someone else.
