I find it hard to imagine this would be an appealing thing at all. I would be appalled! I will be sending emails out for sure.

Please excuse my ignorance, as I do not know....but are sharks endangered? I remember going to a casino in Lake Tahoe many years ago and they had on the seafood buffet, shark steaks. Maybe I am missing something here.

some species of sharks are, but with shark fin soup, it is a lot of the time the way the sharks are left. In many instances the fins are cut off and the shark thrown back to die a horrible, painful, helpless death.

I believe the beef against shark fin sopup has more to do with the manner in which the animals are harvested. I've read that it is common practice to catch the shark, slice off it's fins, and throw it back into the sea...alive! Of course, it is unable to survive for long, because it can't swim properly, and forward motion is necessary for the shark to breathe.

I've eaten shark steaks too, but at least the animal was most likely a common farmed-raised, not wild-caught species. In addition, it was killed humanely, and the entire animal was put to culinary use - not just the fins.

well now I have a better understanding and yes, that is horrible. If they would at least make use of the whole shark, that might be a little different.
