Hmm, some species of gourami can get larger than Oscars... But they are not often found in the aquarium trade.. I think it would be quite a challenge to get access to one of those big guys!

I never seen or thought a gourami could get bigger than an Oscar..I've only seen chocolate, dwarf and honey gouramis though. In my mental image they are small compared to oscars.

I was asking the employee at my lps about putting a gourami in my tank, and he was like "OH NO DON'T DO THAT THEY ALL GET BIGGER THAN OSCARS BY A FEW INCHES TOO"...like he needed to call life alert or something..I kinda just was like "oh okay..."

How do people overcome these situations haha

Fish tanks can get really expensive..my dad was really shocked and upset when we first went to buy my tank. Needless to say, I'm pretty much stuck with a 10g for now. But hey, better than a fish bowl! And tax doesn't help either.

Well, I have another one for this thread.
Just yesterday an employee at a local pet store went off on a rant because he thought I was wasting my time cycling my tank. He was like "don't be in the hobby if you're going to waste your time!" Ugh.

I'm stuck with a 10 gallon too... (Haha my dad had the same reaction  )

And I know sooooooo many people who have fish, but don't have a clue about cycling. I try to give them a lecture on it, but they just run away :ROFLMAO: ...

This is now my go to forum... I have been laughing so much since I started reading this part... so much awesome!!

All plecos are common, why would you spend more for one if they're all easy to get?

Are those your barbs surfer?

And another to keep this on topic,
"You can't cycle a 10g without fish and these mollies here are the best for it because their bioload is so small!"
I left the store and never came back.

What are tiger barbs?

Tiger barbs are fw fish that are known for attacking slower moving fish and fish with long fins such as a betta. They usually have black stripes going vertically through their body, and they prefer to be in schools.

Because of their behavior, most people would say that they are for more advanced fish keepers. I honestly can't say much, but they are quite a beauty!

This was another fish that I had to scratch off my stocking list though ):

High five! (-_____-) I wish I had a bigger tank. Lol

My mom used to keep a betta in those small glass bowls. It lasted for a few months until it died..and guess where she got advice and the betta from? Walmart. Haha I was clueless then, too bad I didn't know sooner.

Cheers to me, who got yelled at by an employee because apparently, cycling is a waste of time and a disgrace to the hobby. *cheers*

Here's an awesome fish for you.... Told you there were Gourami's bigger than Oscars!
Someday I think it would be neat to have a HUGE tank with HUGE fish like these! They are amazing :)

I went to a chain pet store and over heard some customers looking for feeder fish. They saw some glofish, assumed it was the same thing as goldfish and planned on purchasing some to feed their oscar. I didn't stay to hear the end.

Oh my

I know but he said all gourami..so that kinda threw me off guard because it was a part of my stocking plan..haha. It would've been understandable if be threw in examples, but he said "all" and my brain kinda went chaos because honey gourami were in my plan..so I was like "a gourami in a 10g?" "All gourami as big as oscars?" "But I thought they said its a good stocking plan?..."

It's amazing what use of words can throw information off completely.
