Somewhat off topic, but related to the general theme of people who see fish as disposable.... has anyone noticed the guy saying if someone doesn't take his yellow lab he's gonna kill it!?!?

Stupid is the petsmart guy that sold me 3 yellow labs when I had 1 common pleco, 3 rosey barbs, and 1 rainbow shark in a 29 gallon. Doing my research and asking questions here before buying another fish.

Thanks Nature. I've always been the no fear type with either the book smarts behind me to talk my way thru it sensibly, or the crazy inside to go toe to toe and break things. I'd rather do it the first way. I usually wind up with scars the other way.

Hey funny seeing you here.

I have been trying to sell the cichlid for a month now. Posted to multiple forums, asked people who have established mbuna tanks, and asked petsmart if they would take him. Everyone said no, so yea I am tired of seeing 2 fish in my tank and knowing I cant add any others because of the cichlid. I dont want to kill it, but that is my last option. When I first started talking about switching the tank around my dad (who had a 200 gal reef) said kill the cichlid right away. If you think I have not tried finding someone to take the fish then you are not in your right mind.

It's equally shared. Now you've made the right decision by coming here. Ask away whatever you want. You'll always get answers. Some may be conflicting so that's when it's up to you to dig deeper and find an answer you can live with in comfort. It could take a few hours, days, and so on. Point being don't stop until you're satisfied. We've got your back !!!

I've shared this story in a different thread, and I'm telling it again: a few years ago, when I had limited knowledge of fish, a big box store employee told me it was okay to put two fancy goldfish in a 1.5 gallon tank. I didn't know a thing about fish, but even I could tell I'd be an idiot to do that.

I got him to test the water in the tube, obviously he thought it was my water. He told me that the results where "off the charts" and that "I shouldn't be keeping fish in those horrible conditions". I asked him what I needed to do and he said proceeded to gather up all kinds of water treatments. He then told me that it would be a "good idea" to add a further 5 fish(mollies) to help cycle my tank. I waited until there was a few people at the counter and then told him that it was his water he had just tested. Needless to say he was speechless and not very happy. I don't think I'm too welcome in his store anymore...lol.
Now if I need plants, I just ring ahead and check if he is working that day!!!

You sir are a hero!!!

Bravo!

Ever wanna slap your lfs people in the back of the head?

My LFSs are all the same: they aren't high quality and they don't pretend to be. I have probably been to 10 different locations (both big-box stores and locally run) and I have yet to see:
- Knowledgeable staff (but I don't talk to them much)
- An Apisto
- A NICE looking tank (sans colored gravel, tacky décor, etc.)
- Discus (only one tank but they looked sick so I can't count that)
- A planted tank (besides a bundle of water wisteria that looked like it was on its last leg)

The only place of reasonable quality was almost entirely saltwater, and although it had great looking tanks and good advice, it had high prices and was far away.

I found a new place close by and it was just like the rest of them.

Except they had "White Cloud Mountain Tetras."

Never heard of those before.
