How long do I leave my marine tank filter before cleaning it

I never really clean mine... I just clean the sponge out once a week. I'm sure it doesn't hurt to clean the filter though from time to time...

If it's clogged with matter, most people on here will tell you to rinse it out in old tank water from your water change.

One of the things I learned from this forum has saved me a lot of money is not to throw those filters out every week or so.
