Greetings =)

Guess I'm the new guy on the block, so I better introduce myself. I'm 28 and live in Tennessee, I'm a drafter/designer/graphics geek and a fish nut... Been keeping assorted fishies off and on since I was about 10.. Got into salt about 2 years ago and love it dearly.

I've looked around your site a bit and so far it looks most impressive. I noticed a few familar faces, some very familar, and I look forward to chatting with all of you =)

I have 2 at the moment:

a 29 gallon with a single Maroon Clown, a CBS, and of course hermits and snails...

and

a 55 that I call my algae farm at the moment... Bryopsis that just won't quit! Trying to get a handle on it... I just evicted a yellow tang that was a poop factory in hopes of reducing the bioload to a more reasonable level... It has a pair of Tomato Clowns, a Mandarin and 3 green Chromis now, so the bioload has been effectively cut about in half I'd say... A pity too, he was beautiful <sigh> I'd post some pics of it, but just imagine swamp thing, then you've got it! My buddy calls it my underwater lawn =) The last few months have been rather tumultuous for me and the tank has been neglected for too long... Time to fix it, ya know?

I can certainly sympathize...been there done that. You might consider doing a search on algae, there have been some real good threads about it here. Might also post as to what others experiences are with livestock that munch on the bryopsis, give you a few different directions to take. We're glad to have you and we hope to be able to help in any way we can.

My current method of attack is chemically... My calc was way low and everything I've read says that encourages the bryopsis to fluorish... I've started dosing kalkwasser and it's going up gradually.. I can't say for sure, cuz this is pretty subjective, but the manual removal of the junk seems to be getting easier since the calc is going up... Perhaps it isn't thriving quite so well now

I know wishing any living thing DEAD kind of goes against the general idea of conservation, but I wish that crap nothing but bon voyage and good riddance! eheeh
