The closest limnichthys I could find is limnichthys fasciatus??

Yes, a species of Limnichthys. There's only one in my area (central coast of New South Wales), so you should be able to work out which one.

Yes, Limnichthys fasciatus it is - commonly called Tommyfish. They are very common where I live - mostly in sand, shell grit areas adjacent to reef. They are a lot of fun in an aquarium. Difficult to see until feeding time, when they explode from the sand to eat passing food. Your turn Sillyfishies.
