Help! I'm in over my head!

Help!

I'm in over my head!

My boyfriend and I just bought a house in November. We got so many questions about when our housewarming was that we made it January 22nd. Now people are asking me what should they bring - I don't know! I don't know how these things work! I don't even know what is supposed to happen at them!

Do I cook? Do I order hoagies? Beer? Alcohol? I just don't know.

Help!

I think that they are whatever you want them to be.
If you want to have Hoagies and beer that is up to you.
If you want to have a potluck then tell your guests to bring something.

I've only been to a few, (heck, I haven't had mine yet and I've lived at my house for 2 years) and they had finger foods and it was more a low-key get together than anything else.

Remember it's your house and your party, so make it an event that you enjoy too.

Hope this helps

Jeremiah

Depends on the crowd. Pizza and beer, or wine and cheese?
Seriously, depends on how much work you want to put into it. You could always opt for a party platter (cold cuts and such) and some finger foods.
Could ask everyone what their drink of choice is.
Don't stress, enjoy it. Keep it simple [acronym:079f30a9ca="In my opinion"]IMO[/acronym:079f30a9ca].

Lori,

Keep it simple. When I did mine 2 years ago, I made things like cocktail weenies in a BBQ sauce and let it warm up in my crockpot. Finger sandwiches and I made a cake. And then your normal chips and dip.

It's suppose to be fun and easy. As for what to bring, tell them it's a house warming party and anything will be good.

I got tons of plants, plates, glasses, dinnerware and cute little rugs. Stuff for the house.

Hope that helps!

If you are having this party just to show off your new place and as an excuse to get together in your new digs, then pot luck is appropriate - that makes it so much easier on you, and you can get a half-keg (if you have beer drinkers attending) or just fill a cooler or the bathtub with cans and bottles of whatever (some people fill the washing machine with ice and do the same thing, and use the adjacent dryer as a pouring/mixing platform!)

If you are having the party as a way to get some household items that you really need, then you ought to provide the food and drink.

I hope this will be the absolute worst dilemma you run into! I've been in my house for about 7 months and don't want to have my party until I get a wall knocked out here, a faucet replaced there, etc. - prob'ly never happen!

[acronym:36f65c9dbb="In my opinion"]IMO[/acronym:36f65c9dbb] - A housewarming is just that...warmth. Nothing more. Refreshments are a given when guests are invited. Hor's Douvere's are fine (no...I didn't look it up). Beer and wine...that's all you really need (oh yeah, you will need something for the teetotaler's too)!
