Hi Iam new to the server,
But I do have a couple of questions that I am hoping that this community could help shed some light on.
I currently have a 10 gallon tank with 3 fish in it, the bottom is covered in an assortment of coloured rocks, it as well holds 5 ornaments two of which are glow in dark plants.
The fish that are in the tank are as listed
Blue/red male betta
Feeder goldfish(out grew its 5 gallon tank)
Golden algae eater.
About 2-3 weeks ago I bought the golden algae eaters 4 of them for the size of the tank.
1 did not survive the transition of a new tank and died 2 days after introduction.
Unknown to me these algae eaters were covered in ick. Which caused distress for the goldfish for it was the first one to show signs.
I've sea salt treated the water, for 5 days in which killed 2 algae eaters except for 1 as well my fresh plants.
Next with the sea salt treatment ammonia levels spiked high ick did leave and has not returned.
But my goldfish again showed signs of ammonia poisoning with red like veins covering the tail.
Now treated the tank for ammonia by giving them freshest water you can buy, and small drops of meds.
Ammonia level has been finally fixed. But there is another problem. Again the goldfish this time is bashing its tail against the roof top of the aquarium and split his tail in several places, im worried its fish rot.
I have never encounted so many tank diseases until I bought those 4 algae eaters from the pet store.
Today I'm changing the water 100% and cleaning everything to see if it helps, but honestly I'm at a loss.
With in the last 2-3 weeks I've went from switching the water 40/60 to 70/40, now it needs a full clean.
Please help explain the behaviour of my poor goldfish.
Oh yea the betta is fine no torn fins, no sign of ick or anything but treated all anyway for safety.
Yes the tank is being cleaned today its dirty at the moment.
