How much do you pay for electricity? - Aquarium Advice

I have all my electric bill stubs going back to March 2003. It's quite alarming how prices per KWH have gone up since then. It's almost enough to make me switch to unlit, unheated tanks filled with plastic plants and whiteclouds!

I'm not exactly sure how to read this, the utility company lists it like this:

Electic:
Usage: 1260
Amount: 94.65

Gas:
Usage: 13000
Amount: 189.21

The gas prices have gone up since last month.

We can pick our own electric supplier here in PA. Can you do this in NY?

Our bill:
March 2005 - 4.4 cents per kilowatt
March 2006 - 4.0 cents per kilowatt

PA has electric competition so maybe that's why our prices are a bit lower. If we wanted to switch, we would pick a supplier with a KWH lower than 4.0. A lot of companies have pulled out of the state, though, since the deregulation. We have gas choice too but there's not much choice there at the moment due to companies pulling out also. We never looked into switching gas suppliers because with our budget amount stretched throughout the year, our gas bill is not over $100 a month. I think there are only 2 companies at the moment participating in the gas choice plan.

4.9cents for the first 1000kwh
5.9cents abouve 1000kwh

and on top of that crap... a FUEL charge
4.9c first 1000kwh
5.97c above 1000kwh

when i had seco i never had a fuel charge but with progress energy we have the energy charger and fuel charge.. which is BS because its all nuclear energy anyway!!!

For 1035Kwh my electric bill cost me 129.77
