Being in the Susquehanna Valley of PA - you know something is up when:

"Large amounts of flooding rain"

is prefaced by:

"Fortunately our only risk is"

Just chiming in from Connecticut. Basically same deal as Long Island. Mixed emotions about Gloria in '85. It really messed things up, but it's also the reason I met my wife

This one does look like it will be a bit worse than Gloria. We already have a higher water table from all the rain we've gotten in the last month. The tides will be at an astronomical high when the storm hits, and it's moving at a slower pace so the rain and wind will both last longer.

As I work from home, we finally caved and purchased a portable generator (they are due in this afternoon at a local power equipment place). Got lucky as all the big box stores laughed and said none would be in stock for days, and the only other power equipment place I tried wanted $2,100 for a 5,600 watt portable!!! Talk about price gauging!!!!

The one I found ran $799 for 6,600 watts. A pretty fair price I'd say. And keeping my office with power means keeping my tank fishyless cycling with power as it's located there Will probably keep the lights off most of the time to keep the power usage down to just the filter for now....we'll see how the parameters hold up.

It's a bit unreal here in the NYC area ... stopping all NYC mass transit starting noon tomorrow ... Atlantic City "closing" .. well if the casinos are closed, AC's basically closed. Every supermarket I've been to is a mad scene.

AND ... for you L.I. members ... I just saw on a local T.V. station that there is a "mandatory" evacuation south of Sunrise Hwy from the Queens border to the town of Rockville Centre.

Yeah saw that, apparently they were about two days late in deciding to leave Portsmouth to beat the storm.People never fail to amaze me.Problem is they put other people in danger.
