I need a computer book that teaches you EVERYTHING!

Hey guys. I'm trying to teach my Mother and Father how to work the computer...but so far, it's just not sinking. They insist that they need a book. A constant reference to go back to, until they get a hold of things.
It's all literal greek to them. They don't even know where the power button is.

Can anyone reccomend a computer book that will teach EVERYTHING? From...how to hold the mouse, to how to click, to powering on and shutting down, and to the internet? I need something that covers ALL the basics. Hehe.

Thanks for looking. Appreciate any help I can get.

<literal greek>

Does this mean it needs to be in the greek language? If so, that may be difficult without going to a greek bookstore.

The best book I've seen has an unfortunate title. "Windows for dummies". It covers everything that you mention above.

Sorry...meant to say "literally greek". As in...they have no clue what anything does....at all.

My bad.

Solitare is a great way to teach someone how to hold/use the mouse. As Bill said the dummies books seem to be very popular. I for one have never had the gull to pick one up and look at it but i know people who swear by them.

The Green Valley book fair is on down here and you can get books at some insane prices. An idea at the discounts is I purchased some $30 and $40 books for just $10 and $12. Books are brand spanking new. They have many computer books. Its well worth the trip if you can make it over the weekend or something.

Never really thought about it, but that is how my mother learned to use a computer. Now, she surfs on the internet and does work-related projects on the computer.

That's why solitaire was originally included with windows. It wasn't because it was such a cool game

I too would recommend the above book. It's as user friendly as it gets. Then you should pick up a nice thick book on C++ just in case they get cocky.

My grandparents just recently learned how to use the [acronym:7837ad6f28="Power compact fluorescent"]PC[/acronym:7837ad6f28] that has been sitting unused at their house for the last 5 years (just imagine how slow it is. ha!). How did they do it? "... for Dummies". They have about 3 or 4 of them, including Windows for Dummies. Seems like a good series for the 100% beginner.

I personally love the "...for dummies series." I have web designs for dummies, html for dummies, and digital photography for dummies. I find those books speak to me in a way other tech books don't. I can really relate to them. I try not to think about what that might mean

Thanks alot guys.

After some research I got the "dummies" book and another called "The absolute beginners guide to computer basics".

According to reviews, it's a bit more user friendly than dummies, in that it assumes no prior knowledge. According to what I read, the dummies books still insert alot of computer jargon. We'll see if it works. Thanks so much for the advice.
