| I was impressed! Last night, BrianNy and his wife, Tara invited me to stop by after work for dinner. After a delicious meal, I was admiring one of their dozen-or-so discus tanks, when Tara noticed that the water level was rather low in one of their densely planted tanks. Turned out the Fluval 304 was leaking - a cracked side locking latch was the culprit. Fortunately, they had the cannister filter in a big rubbermaid tub, so the carpet stayed dry.
Well, Tara sprang into action and got a new Filstar filter that they had gotten for another tank. Meanwhile, Brian disassembled the intake/output hoses from the damaged Fluval. Together, they changed out the filter & hoses and primed the new filter in less than ten minutes.
It was like watching a NASCAR pit crew in action! Needless to say, I was impressed! |

| Your impressed? I'm in utter shock. The fact that a husband/wife can be teammates in this hobby (or any other) is amazing! Congrats to team BrainNY&Tara!

| Wow...that is impressive!
It would be great to have a spouse as a "teammate" in this hobby. It is the exact opposite at my household. All aquarium maintenace has to occur at night...when the wife a kids have gone to bed. I get in trouble just for stopping and watching the fish for too long of time.... WC

| My wife barely tolerates my hobby as well. She is less then happy with the money I spend on it (or the time I put in here at AA!). But she can not walk by my tanks without stopping to have a look at everyone. I am sure she would miss it if it was gone. (Believeme, it has been threatened )

| I'm no expert on this subject (22 years surely cannot qualify me) but I'm sure there are some exceptions to the rule When I pull out testing kits, buckets and python, I'm on my own. My wife will dictate decorative placement and that's all. When I advise why I'm changing water, I get one of these looks BTW, I'm not allowed to purchase:
Furniture
Linens
Whites
Pots/Pans
Silverware
Carpets
Tile
Wall hangings
Lamps
Should I continue?

| I feel your pain...I wish my wife took a more active roll, but alas it is my expensive hobby. I usually get the look anytime I come home with a bag from the LFS. In fact the other day I lost an anenome into the intake of my CPR BAK PAK 2 and she did not even notice the loud noise coming from the tank until I said something when I came home from work
I will say though that I have caught her admiring the tank and pointing things out to company on occassion. Three years ago when I thought I was too busy to stay in the hobby and actually disassembled the tank, she encouraged me to set it back up. So she must like it or just figures the stress relief keeps me from beating the kids.

| Thanks for the compliments Andy As far as team BrianNY and Tara, well.
Here comes some marraige wisdom from Brian.....I've been blessed with a life partner that's also my very best friend. We've learned to support each others wants and desires. If every couple would praise more, criticize less, offer constructive opinions without offending, and realize little things that upset us are really unimportant, there'd be alot more happiness in the home.
She doesn't care if I watch football, forget to take out the trash, or invite friends over at the last minute. I don't care if she watches soaps all day, doesn't clean, or tells me "there's nothing in the house to eat, let's go out for dinner". In other words......don't sweat the small stuff and find happiness making your mate happy.
My wife and best friend |
