My grandmother, Nannie, passed away in her sleep last night. When I left yesterday, we had plans to sit and chat today. I wanted to surprise her with sugar cookie dough and use her cookie cutters to make the cookies. My sister (who's currently in Phoenix) and I used to spent a few days every summer with my grandmother making sugar cookies. My dad would take her place driving wheat to the river, so Nannie could stay with us. She had literally hundreds of cookie cutters. We would pick the ones we wanted to use. By the time we were done, there were only a few left on the peg board that lined one wall of the kitchen. Nannie would stock up on sprinkles and tubed frosting so we could decorate the cookies all afternoon. I miss her so much.
