Is this sturdy enough for my 55 gal?

I recently got a 55 gallon with the lid and filter (and scored on gravel and live plants) for $10 on Craigslist. I currently own a 30 gallon and a 10 gallon that I put on my cubbie shelf. (Don’t mind the plants and mess. Haha it’s cleaned out in preparations for the 55 now) I had them both on this shelf and it was sturdy. Didn’t shake or move at all with both of them on. But I’m more skeptical about the 55 because even though it fits perfectly, it’ll weight about 650 pounds with water (without rocks and decor)

What are your opinions on this? Any input is appreciated ! If this is a no go what are some appropriate alternatives. Not including a tank stand because that’s an obvious, but if it’s the only best solution that’s just what it is haha.

What type of material is the cubby built of?
What as it’s original purpose?
Who made it?
It looks sturdy, but I think whether it’s safe or not depends on all of this.

In my thoughts, would say no. We don't have the particulars for the structure of the unit, but the center doesn't seem to have enough support.

The 55G tank would likely be 550 to 600 pounds. Tank, gravel, water, rocks and equipment. Any twisting movement like accidentally bumping into /falling against it hard, would probably make it collapse, even if it could stand.

Because this thread was quite slow, I wanna ended up giving it a shot! But I added two boards under the tank as support. Doesn’t move, very sturdy. I wouldnt had done it without the support boards. It evens out the weight between the whole shelf rather than just where the tank sits.

Good. In general keep an eye and ear out for any loose connections in boards or cam screws to be turned the locking direction below and any eerie creaking.

Good call on the added boards otherwise you would have had a problem. While that stand is not designed in the least to support 500lbs. You may get away with it.
