My advice would be to find a "mom 'n pop" plant nursery in your area and take your business there. My wife and I were driving around my new town to find the county dump and decided to stop in this nursery we saw. This place turned out to be amazing. It had beautiful flowers and plants, and fair prices. As an added benefit, it has a strawberry patch. Nothing beats picking your own strawberries--and this place charges only $1.20 a pound!

It's the same with fish stores,--the big chain stores have their uses, but you better do your research beforehand because 9 times out of 10 you'll get bad or even incorrect advice. The mom 'n pop places often have people who have been doing their thing for years, and you can also work out deals with most places.

Life is way to short to get that upset about bad service! Having been a retail manager for 30yrs the best and most evective way to complain is with you feet!! There are just to many other places to shop.

Having said that .....I don't think anyone there handled the situation properly.....so take a deep breath, smile, and spend your money somewhere else!

I found the following on their website.

+1 to this idea.

but I'd still probably stop shopping there as well. no Lowe's here, but we have HD and Menards. menards never has anyone around to help unless you're at the paint counter or the contractors counter. Plus HD will cut wood for me (handy when making canopies)

I have two parts....
Part 1
1st (and I could be wrong), but I think Home Depot only (or at least used to) hire professionals. I never heard anything like that for Lowes...
2nd I worked retail and had my bad days, but I was always respectful to the customer (and no, the customer isn't always right...decent business strategy, but sometimes backfires and lets people get away with totally unreasonable requests).
3rd your situation sounds like poor management and training on the retailer's part. Keep going higher up the food chain, you have a good cause to be upset!

Part 2
I'll tell you a little story that happened after I decided to retire from Retail.
I was in a store, and this guy was being a REAL jerk to the cashier. She was trying her best to help him with his problem (it's been a few years and braincells to remember exactly what the problem was). Well, he was bound and determined to be an unreasonable jerk, started cussin and just being nasty. Well, I was the next in line and had enough. I am not a really big boy, 6ft 2in about 220LBs (some of the weight is a "real refined beer-gut", but I could not stand there and listen that abuse, (remember that poor girl was really trying and on the verge of tears). So I look at that guy and said, "You know, she is trying her best and you need to quit being such an a**hole (sorry if that offended, but I was quoting myself). He whipped around at and look like he was going to say something, but decided not to. Anyway, he stormed out of the store and the cashier thanked me. I will tell you what, that was one of the best feelings, EVER!
Just from working retail and having to deal w/those sorts of unreasonable people...(I'm not saying folks like you Melissa...In your case you are the customer and very upset for a good reason).
Well, that's my thoughts.

I hope you get your issue resolved and some action is being taken on the part of the retailer, otherwise, they will lose more people's (like yours) business.

TwoHobbies You are right life is to short and I will go elsewhere..However, I do not like to just drop things and let this kind of situation go. Not fair to let someone else have to go through what I did and if I can make a difference.....I will.

In some ways I agree.........But It has happened to often in other situations and I was a manager for a company and had to deal with customers and my employes..........

This was something that really got me.. Not only is there people on the floor not knowing anything but you have a manager ...Not doing enough in my opinion........

I will be taking care of this fully and to those who are helping me thanks

I was recently hired on as a vendor for a company that services lowes and I have to say I am pretty shocked at how few people there are working there. A lot of times customers will come up to me with a question and I generally don't know the answer because I only work in a small area, but I offer to go and find an employee for them which is more often than not a difficult thing to do. (wow that was a long sentence) I say good for you for you for following through with this. They need to know what is going on in the store.

Good for you for helping! I love people like you!

I followed up and called the store...Left a message with the store manager. So hopefully I will hear something tomorrow.

Sorry this is so late, haven't read the boards in forever & this post really caught my eye.

I've only been a Lowe's cashier since the end of Jan.

I am really really sorry that you recieved such poor service at your store Unfortunetly it's not just your store. There are so many problems with some of our employees, & none of it is going to change anything soon

Lowes is huge & carries so many objects, your best chance of finding what you want is asking someone in the section. Even so, you still might have the wrong person. I'm a cashier, I can ring someone up, but i'm mostly familiar with garden center objects. I can tell someone where daisys probably are (if they haven't been sold out or moved), but I can't ID a piece of molding that comes through without a bar code nor can I tell a customer where to find half the stuff i'm asked out from inside the store. Can't tell you how many times on my way to lunch or break that I get asked where to find an object i've never heard of.

BUT, "I don't know where it is" should never be uttered without ", but i'll find someone who does." I will rip a new one on employees I see doing not doing that
