Mexico trip

We are planning a trip to mexico/Cancun and since I know alot of people on here have been to the area, I thougt I would see if there are any must sees there?

I think my wife is looking at a resort in Cancun called the Oasis. Anyone ever been here? How far from this area is some good snorkling?

Thanks for any advice/tips?

Excellent!! Need someone to carry your bags??
Been down to the Yucatan several times, mostly Cozumel, but have been to Cancun Once.
For snorkeling take a trip to Isla Mujeres, very nice snorkeling. You can snorkel off the beaches of Cancun, but the surf can make it rough. Down off of Club Med, these is supposed to be snorkeling but I never check it out (spend my time diving).
Check out Chichen Itza, its pretty cool.
A must place for a dinner is a place downtown called Pericos. Ask a cab to take you there, you won't regret it. The food is super and the entertainment is very unique.
I have seen the Oasis, but have not stayed there. It looks nice.
Have a blast, great place!!

Thanks for the tips! I am always a bit leary going somewhere I have never been to I have heard not to drink the water though

We snorkled in Aruba once and liked it. Hopefully this will be as nice. Maybe someday I will learn to dive.

Thanks again.

No worries, bottled water is everywhere. If you leave a small tip every morning (just a buck or 2), the maids will leave extra bottled water for you. I found this to be true everywhere I stayed in MX.

How far is Cozumel and other good snorkeling places from Cancun? I have heard you can take a ferry a few different places?

To get to Coz, you would need to take a taxi or a bus to Playa De Carmen. From there you can take the ferry over to Coz. Playa is about a 45 minute ride from Cancun and the ferry ride is 12 miles, takes about 30 minutes. Worth the trip [acronym:e6ece25630="In my opinion"]IMO[/acronym:e6ece25630], my favorite place in the Carribean and is one of the best diving spots in the world. Snorkeling is very good too. The water is flat and the viz wonderful.

Not sure, haven't stayed there. Cancun has some fine snorkeling, just need to go to Isla Mujeres. Its a small island off the mainland, short boat ride.
[acronym:5e561ae951="In my opinion"]IMO[/acronym:5e561ae951], you should get scuba certified before you go. Its incredible.
Here are a couple of trip reports I have posted in the past on another forum.

Also, consider Cozumel if you want the best snorkeling, great calm water for the kids and a wonderful place. We stayed here for 2 weeks this summer.

wonderful resort. Especially if you have kids. Its all inclusive, the food is so so, but the resort is wonderful overall. We will probably go back next summer. Super family resort.
