i teach in Apple Valley (for the non-minnesotans that is the town where the minnesota zoo is,) so i take a group of students there every spring. i would spend hours watching the reef and shark tanks if my students would let me! LOL

I am the Operations Director for your local Paramedic Ambulance Service (ALF Ambulance). We also work closely with the zoo and once a year meet out there for a tour and a cool "behind the scenes" tour of the facilities. The reef, shark and dolphin tanks are, of course, my favorite.

as far as i know it has always been open in the winter... all the outside exibits are Northern animals (bison, Muskox, siberian tigers...) that do not mind the cold

It is a great winter escape. A very large portion of the zoo is actually indoors so there is lots to see and do.
