Monster Garage
Has anyone else gotten into this show?
Ok if you have no idea what I am talking about then here is some background info. This is a new series on the Discovery channel. (i find myself watching this channel more than network tv) The object of the show is to take a normal everyday vehicle and convert it to some monster vehicle. On tonights show they took an ambulance and converted it to a popup wheelie dragster. Other shows include converting a Porche into a golf ball pickeruper (if that was not enough they put a golf ball cannon on it and was shooting the range golfers with it). Here is the offical website for the show http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/mo...tergarage.html

My favorite is the school bus that turns into the pontoon boat. Best show on TV. IMO

I seen the one where they turned the Mustang GT into the worlds fastest lawn mower. I only seen about half of the show, but it was crazy. And Ill second that, Jesse James is the man!

I saw the one where they were building "nut shakers". They started with a pickup truck, replaced the box with tons of fancy hydrolics and checkerplate, then gave it a great paint job. Then raced it in a Wallnut grove and used it to shake the nuts out of the trees.
What impressed me most was the craftsmanship. The way they fabricated the parts that they needed. Amazing. Cool show.

There is a similar thing in England at the moment called ' Demolition '. Two teams are given various tools and power tools and have to break down things like tractors / caravans / ambulances in the smallest way possible and post through a tyre or similar and the winner is the most weight posted after an hour, it's mad !!

That demolition show sounds strange. So you start with something like a car. And the object is to chop it up and pass the parts thru a tire? Once it has passed thru the tire what do you do on the other end? Do you reassble it?
Monster Garage is different I think from what you describe. What they do is take something. Like the school bus to pontoon boat. They start with one of those short school buses. And in 7 days they convert it from a stock school bus to a pontoon boat. They get to spend $3000 total on the conversion. When the conversion is finished the bus must still look like a bus. (ie the overall appearance is still bus like). In the bus episode they chopped the top of the bus in half and put hinges on the sides and installed hydrolics and cable mechinsim to lift and lower the top sides of the bus . They then filled these sides with foam to make the bus float. Riged up the axle to also drive a prop so they could move on the water. It really is a wicked show.

No.
A good example would be an episode from a few weeks back. Two teams are each given a caravan and a huge range of tools, some being power tools. They are then given I think about 45 mins to break down the caravan and absolutely everything inside it and then post it through a small tyre, affixed into the middle of the wall. The winning team is the one with the most weight posted when the time runs out. It is quite good interesting to watch, as it's different every week. Last week, they had to demolish two sets of a real kitchen and cram as much weight into a fridge freezer unit as possible !!

Interesting....
Seems like the UK producers are comming up with alot of unique shows. I think it was the UK that came out with a british version of what us americans know as "Junk Yard Wars". Not sure what they called it in the UK but the first two hosts on the american show where from the UK so i figured thats where the show started. In that show you have two teams and a junk yard full of junk. The task is to build a specific contraption. Like one time they had to build a boat. One team did the old boat design with a motor and prop and the other team did a jet ski style boat. At the end they race eachother.

Oh yeah, it might be ScrapHeap Challenge ??
Also, do you have a Robot Wars over there ? BTW, I can't stand any programmes like the mentioned, but demolition is pretty good.
