My personal opinion... I like original things... whether it was a tatoo or a fish tank I like to put a bit of myself into things but that's just me. A lot of tatoos of that style are boring to me but that's just me. I wont think any less of you for getting it... :P
what you really need is a tattoo of your avatar

man... I've been wanting a tat for about 4 years now (two of which I have been legally old enough to get one) but I can't decide on a design! Plus, I have been trying to creat my own, and I am never happy with my artwork (welcome to the life of a perfectionist...). Oh, this one guy at my school has a double-helix running up his arm, it looks awesome (not sure if it is cliche or not, but I think it is cool) the way it twists and turnes.

I don't know. I think the whole "tribal" thing is played already. I guess it would be different if you were actually in a tribe (I don't know, maybe you are). It's like people getting asian calligraphy done when they really don't know what they are putting on.

My advice...

Either create it yourself or have somebody create it specifically for you. The tribal stuff is just a bunch of squiggly lines (that looked cool until everybody started sporting them). Get something unique or something that says something about you, not just a bunch of squiggly lines that are more like decoration rather than uniqueness (unless squiggly lines best describe your personality ).

What's wrong with getting a tattoo just for decoration? Isn't that what piercing and jewelry and makeup and fashion and everything else is all about?

wow I never realized there were so many tattoo fans 8O I must be really old or something. I haven't ever even thought about a tattoo. I do agree with the ones that think you should make it your very own tattoo in some way, one that no one else will ever have.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with that. I just said that my advice is to go with something unique and/or meaningful instead of getting a design that you like today (and maybe not down the road).

I agree, but in some ways it's actually safer to just get a design you like.. it's a gamble to choose something that has meaning now but may or may not in the future. I don't just mean something obvious like someones name, but any design that you relate to a person or thing.

I think we're over-analyzing this, lol.
