Neat!
When I was a kid, I used to catch mantids in my yard. Nothing as exotic as yours, though. I'd watch them eat crickets for a few days before releasing them.

How long do they live in captivity?

What kind of Praying Mantises are those. Very cool critters. I used to catch them and observe for a few days, then release them. I found out it's illegal, do to the fact they are on e the endangered species list (this was 10 years ago, thier status may have changed since then).

Flutterby21782, I heard the same thing growing up on Long Island, but it's perfectly legal to catch, or even kill native praying mantids - and always has been. Of course, anyone would be nuts to kill them on purpose - they eat all kinds of annoying and destructive insects.

Depending on where you live, it may be illegal to import or own the exotic species that jadefoodog has. Same with any exotic pet - you'd have to check your state's department of agriculture for possible restrictions.

yeah one is a B.Mendica from africa (the spiky one its also called a thistle mantis, or devils flower mantis)

the green one is a T.sinesis from china mostly just called a chinese . they are pretty common in florida but not native.

yeah oklahoma could care less what we have . our native species here is stagmomantis carolina and we are in no shortage of them.

for the states the import export thing is useually pretty light reguarding mantids id go as far to say they really dont care. they are more looking to keep out pest that can (A.) harm native wildlife or (B.) harm agriculture.

and our native species of mantis can take out most other mantis excluding budwings or any species of giant (and most species that can overcom te stagmomantis carolina or arizona cant survive our climate its either too humid or too cold in evey season except summer. most giants require high heat and some that are desert species cant take our humidity.

like B.mendica i have are a desert species and couldt take our climate for a week . its either to cold or too humid.

the chinese can live around florida and in the south near there but doesnt get out much farther because it requires the humidity and heat.

the things on the important list reguarding pets are any kind of insect pest and dangerous scorpions snakes and spiders. things that can cause real harm.

but yeah as a disclaimer check with your blah blah blah and make sure your blah blah wont hang you if your caught.
