Its a kind of cichlid,

It does come from south america!

its a Checkerboard Cichlid!

These cute little guys spend alot of time on the aquarium floor, they like plenty of hiding places.

It is real! Trust me!

Nope and nope! Very close though , heres a hint.

Each scale has a darker edge which gives the fish a more "checkered" pattern

Edit: that picture may be a bad one ill find another see if that helps ( should have red on its fins the pictured one may be stressed)

Edit edit: nevermind the red fins are on a different variant sorry

Yay! Its a checker barb!

The checker barb is also known as the island barb. These bright little guys are different from there cousins. Unlike other barbs checker barbs have a cylindrical body shape.

On to the next one!!!
