New family member

She's still a baby...only 5 weeks old, but the owners had to get rid of them. The father is a black lab and the mother a 9 month old yellow lab. We took the runt of the liter. I feel she's too young to be away from her family, but my 9 yr old female lab being around makes it a little more familar to the pup.

Shes adorable! Youre right, 5 weeks is young to be away from the littermates and her mother because they teach socialization, and how to act like a dog so to speak. For instance, when the littermates are roughhousing together and one bites to hard and the one that gets bit squeals, this makes the pup stop biting because it hurts.

You can try and mimic this behaviour, but above all start training now, hopefully this will make up for the lost time with its littermates.

Aww....she's so cute! I have 2 Dachshund puppies that we got at 6 weeks and 1 day. They were also too young to be away IMO, but the owner had to get rid of them. Luckily with 2 of them (brother/sister), they play and learn the not to bite too hard stuff.

How does she like that collar? Mine are still getting used to wearing one....we didn't put them on until they were like 8 weeks or so though...they were just too small.

What's her name?

Thanks everyone
I have an appt to take her to the vet on Monday. The original owners didn't take any of the pups to see a vet. We got our other lab when she was 8 wks old and she was already dewormed, dew claws removed and I think she had her 1st shot (that was 9 yrs ago...memory is getting bad..lol). She also weighed 26 lbs at 8 weeks and was the biggest in a liter of 13. I don't think the new pup weighs 10 lbs. but she is eating and drinking real good.
Our 9 yr old lab is well trained and well manored. I'll train the new pup the same way. There are rules that must be followed.

She hates the collar...when she's awake. She's up for about 45 mins then sleeps about 1.5-2 hrs.
My daughter named her Brooklyn.

I'm working on it. I had a hard time just getting pics of her awake.
