New site
According to the forum rules I can post my new site here in the lounge.
Just wanted to let folks know it's there. It's not much now, but I'll keep adding to it, and there is a (shhh) forum. I've actually just finished 99% of the design phase, and am starting to add content a little at a time. www.fishatlas.net |

Well, at least it is blue
Might I also suggest listing the minimum tank size for specific species?

Oops... Sorry... No one was meant to see that... It's a Powder Blue Tang of course... [acronym:3a30b95a3e="Laughing out loud"]LOL[/acronym:3a30b95a3e] The marine pages are all just spacers right now, and that pic was just to test layout. I've been concentrating on the freshwater side the most. Thanks for pointing it out.
Lando: Good point... Been thinking about that also... I've gotta change my data input page tomorrow, and I'll add that to the data table. TY. |

Nice site! I have a few suggestions though. I think you should put at least 60 gallons for the minimum tank size for clown loaches. Make it 14" for the columbian sharks, 125g minimum tank size, and mention that they can only be kept in freshwater when young. They need more and more salt as they get older, full [acronym:ac1d16f299="Saltwater"]SW[/acronym:ac1d16f299] as adults.

Thanks RoK...
I'm still coming up with little design details to add everyday it seems. I think I updated over 60 pages on the site today. Doublechecked a few sources on the Colubian shark... I've only had one of those before myself, and he didn't live to be more than 6", so I've never taken care of a mature one. The size seems to differ with the source... I've seen it anywhere from 10" up to 24". I settled for 18" as the source is reliable. I also forgot to mention the venomous spines in the comments, so I added that... When I had one it killed 2 Plecos in as many days that accidentally swam over it. Also a good point on the Clown Loach... I always think 40 Gallons because I've got one I've had for 10 years in a 40 gallon, and is fine, but I should have considered that mine never grew to it's full size, and most people probably want more than one as well. |

A couple more tank and fish sizes I would raise would be the silver dollars to 50g, bleeding heart tetras (they can get to about 2.5 inches and can be a little territorial in small tanks) to 20g, dwarf gouramis size to 3", and kissing gouramis (can actually get to nearly 12") to 60g. Also, for bettas I would put size to 2.6" and minimum tank size to 2g.
Check out FishBase.org if you haven't already.

Cool, I see you updated the site. Did you decide to not raise the bleeding heart tetra's size (of the actual fish) or just forgot about it?

Just forgot to update that one... Been concentrating on getting the word out on the forum, getting an [acronym:8d5c7189ce="Frequently asked questions"]FAQ[/acronym:8d5c7189ce] up, and a sitemap up (for the googlebot). I'm trying to add 3 fish profiles a day (1 marine, 1 fresh, and one invert)... Missed today so I gotta do 6 tomorrow
At least I've gotten it to the point where I'm not doing any more major page updates. I think for two weeks I was having to update every page on the site each day. Now I hope I'll just be adding fish. At least it gives me something to do until spring when my lawn business picks back up. Thanks for all the feedback... It's kind of a pain getting the information since so many sources conflict with each other, but in all my new profiles I'm sticking to a formula where I will err at the higher end of the spectrum at least if the info I get isn't right. *Edit* Hmmm... Actually I did update the Bleeding Heart page... It just never got uploaded with the rest. Fixed now. |
