AHOSKIE, N.C. Two animal rights workers face animal cruelty charges in
North Carolina.

Police say the two employees of People for the Ethical Treatment of
Animals, or PETA, were charged after allegedly dumping dead dogs and
cats in a shopping center garbage bin.

Investigators had staked out the bin after discovering dead animals
had been dumped there each Wednesday for the past four weeks. Neither
police nor PETA have offered any suggestion on why the animals might
have been dumped.

The organization says the two had been picking up animals to be
brought back to PETA headquarters to be euthanized.

One of the employees has been suspended. Both are free on bond, and
are set to appear in court today.

The group's president says PETA would be "appalled" if the pair did
dump the animals in the bin.

PETA is locally based here, so the press is having a field day with this. Regardless of what their agenda is, their tactics can be questionable. The geographic area in which we live here (Norfolk, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach) is called the Tidewater Area. Here, we call PETA: People Embarrassing the Tidewater Area.

PETA: People for the Eating of Tasty Animals

This group gives people that like animals a bad name. They are WAY out there.

I love this bit...

The organization says the two had been picking up animals to be
brought back to PETA headquarters to be euthanized.

Hasn't anyone wondered about this? PETA employees cruising about, collecting animals to take back to the PETA house O' death? PETA...your real agenda is showing!
