Reef shade structures almost a reality

I think this is certainly within the realm of relevance to us on this forum. It's an article about how shades are being put up over the great barrier reef to stop coral bleeching.

Here's a small snippit:

Scientists have been trialling a series of devices on Agincourt reef, off Port Douglas in far north Queensland, to prevent coral bleaching caused by warmer water temperatures and sunlight.

University of Queensland scientist Ove Hoegh-Guldberg said researchers and a local tour operator had been conducting small-scale experiments on structures 5m by 5m.

Anything to help protect our reefs I am in support of, however I think it's rather sad that we have to use these things to help protect what is arguably caused by us.

certainly interesting. Although the article is a light on the research findings. Is their theory that shading the reef will help reduce the water temperature?
