Reviving dead reefs with new "seed" polyps

Has anyone heard about this? I read a snippet of this in my AP Environmental Science textbook and was wondering if people are actually doing this.

Humans were kind of nature's Frankenstein monsters, it needs some help. It's like being an amateur boxer or something and a pro comes to fight in your match- not gonna end well. Anyway, this is a thing, I've participated in dives that do it off the OC coast and also on installing thousands of reef balls in OC and the Chesapeake
