I know you live in a smallish apartment and don't have the room or means to radically change your life, but I encourage you to look into continuing education courses.
I am currently attending community college and am 2 semesters away from getting my AS, and then going to a 4 year college to get my BS. That's just another part of the grind.

That's why I can't just take off. Believe me, I would love to do that. As a matter of fact that's what I did after high school instead of attending college. Took road trips everywhere. I wound up going into debt that I'm still paying off today and being the oldest person in most of my classes. No, part of the problem of the grind is that it's necessary right now.

True that...sometimes you dont have any choice but to fight through it. I know how that goes; I have the same problem from time to time....What gets frustrating is being in a grind and knowing exactly what you want to do or what might make things a bit easier, but no way to do it. Money is a big problem, time is another. I love my hobbies and would love to spend more time and money but with a wife and kids your either spending too much time away from them or spending too much money on one thing. My wife isnt into the whole "fish" thing so I rarely get to spend the time or money I want to in the hobby. Shes not into the car thing either, so the car projects take a back burner. Right now Im trying to force myself to find something to enjoy regarding make-up or clothes or jewelry. I think my chances of getting the family (all girls) involved in that one would be much better.

Sorry for making humor in light of your circumstances, I mean it all in the best way. Sometimes it helps to talk to other people who have similar or worse problems and pitch in your own ideas on how they can help themselves.....that does it for me. There are a lot of sorry folks that have it much worse than I do! Ok, another joke, but you'll find your sweet spot in life. I really hope so cause Im gonna need your advice later on to get out of my rut.

Just keep active in the things that bring you any ounce of happiness and, maybe, try to find new ways to enjoy them. Maybe your wife has some ideas too...it might be nice if both of you could find something to share together. Im stil looking for those kinds of things myself so, no, I dont have all the answers. I do wish you the best though. Hey, for what its worth, keep us informed and feel free to vent on the internet...it truly is a great tool. People are people and, wether or not they like to admit it, there are plenty of them right here who feel the same way or have recently...dont worry about posting off topic posts in the forums. Its a forum thats open for discussion for people like all of us. Good luck!

Aside from all the advice you are getting (all of it is well intended I am sure). The way you feel is just that; the way YOU feel. No one person or society is responsible for it, but you are responsible for the impact on yourself. Instead of advice, I'll recommend a book. "The four agreements" I can't recall who wrote it, but it's thin and an easy read that may help if you want it too. But if you don't feel like reading TRY SALTWATER! that'll keep you mind off the mundane.

Hey Shawmutt, I was searching through old threads today for Brichardi info...but somehow came up with the thread that you started about your new job. You said:

After 3 months as a temp, I hopefully will get hired full time (the manager stopped short of buying my contract, but has already told me he is considering it depending on how I work out). I'll be making more, after 3 months, than in my old job. The best part is, one of the main drugs the company makes is for babies with respiratory problems--so my job actually matters.
I know that anytime you start a new job, you're always on a bit of a high (I'm coming down off of one for my job), but it really does sound like the work you do is important. And, if I remember reading elsewhere correctly, they even made you a permanent employee sooner than the three months...that must really mean they value you.

I hope you're feeling better about things and that you can shake your rut off...but I just thought I'd pull up this old quote to remind you how good you've got it

Shawmutt, I'm going to a psychotherapist in a couple of weeks to help me get back on track. Don't think that a therapist is for nutcases, it can really be helpfull, and I'm looking forward to be able to talk someone about all the things playing in my head. I too am facing some issues I have about my life and myself, and I want to do something about it.

This is just a thought, maybe this could help you as well. And again, there's nothing wrong with looking at professional help.

Shawmutt, I couldn't possibly give you any better advice than what everyone else has contributed. I just want to let you know that I'm thinking about you and hope you can come to a solution that's right for you!
