silicon sealing tanks

Is it safe to seal the lip of a tank with silicon?
Is there maybe certain types of silicon that will or won't work?

Again I'm not sealing any cracks, just the glass panels to the bottom of the tank.
I was told its fine but I wanted to check!

GE #1 will work. If you use something else make sure its 100% silicone with no additives such as mold or mildew inhibators
