Its because www.sco.com is trying to take down the GNU and Linux by saying Linux uses files that are core to a OS Sco has created, or something.

They also claim linux is a " new, upstart OS fresh on the market " or something.

I can see why the tech savy would be quite ticked at them, dosn't justify the use of virii tho.

I have Norton 2003 and have scanned both of our computers and all is well so I don't think it is coming from me either.

Make sure your virus defs where updated yesterday or the day prior. The new virus is undetectable to virus defs that have not been updated since after the virus has been released.

I catch them as they come in on email, Fishfreek. Norton Internet Security Package.

Even if one gets through, my firewall won't let it back out.

Rest assured, Citizen, that not a single one has yet to get through

I dont mean to come across harsh.

I really just wanted to possibly inform someone that they may have become infected and not realized it. Today I havent gotten any virus's sent to the forum address so I hope whom ever it was got it taken care of.

I did read an interesting news article today that predicted that 1 in every 12 e-mails travling across the internet over the last few days has been an e-mail infected virus.

I'm also using the Norton Internet Security and it seems to do a good job. I had to reload Live Update to get my definitions to update...got it done though and a full system scan only turned up some pesky adware.
You don't come across harshly...this is the type thing we all need to be aware of. I certainly don't want to be responsible for spreading a virus.

viruses...

Two days ago I got an email from someone I didn't know and it had a file names data.scr the next day I got one from someone else I didn't know this time it was file.zip I emailed both people asking why I got something from someone I didn't know but one wasn't a real email address... frustrating... I deleted the emails and haven't experienced any problems since... This morning's paper had a story about the viruses going around on the front page... apparently all the companies in the town have gotten infected emails but none have had any serious problems... I can't figure why these people who are obviously smart waste their time being so destructive... it makes no sense... I've heard people say that the people that write them do that to prove Bill gates stuff isn't perfect or just to get back at him... it still makes no sense... If you want to prove your better than someone than go out and do something better... and if you want to hurt someone, not that I recommend it, go out and do something that will actually bother the person... slash his tires, paint his dog, place a bag of burning crap on his doorstep.... I seriously doubt any virus so far has had any ill effects on Bill himself... what are these people thinking... they're just hurting and aggrevating everyone else..... grrrrrrr....... why why why.... :badwords:
People make me sick....... I guess that's why we have pets....

They get a trill from it. Alot of them will acutally leave 'signature code' in the virus like as a way of signing the work to show folks what they can do.

With virus's like this often times the people who have the address in the from on the e-mail dont have the virus but its someone they know. What they do is take all the e-mail address's in your addres book and in your out/in/trash box and use those e-mail address's as the from address.

Its for the thrill of it, specially if you get a big news story on national TV for it.

Others do it becaue they're frustrated with the way big business works, Like the story I posted above of SCO trying to take down Linux.

I could forgive a computer virus...I might even overlook the slashed tires. But...paint my dog?! There would be a killin' in GA .
