sorry about my signature

Quote:
I was wondering if you could change your signature. Some of our users are very sensetive, and do not take it very well when they see their IP. We had a problem with a similar signature before. I guess some people just don't know how out there there information is.

I would like to apologise to everyone that my signature has upset. The signature/image is in widespread use on many forums but because I have not seen it used here, and I have never actually subscribed for it before, I thought it would raise a few smles here.

The signature/image is formed by taking info from you you naturally broadcast when you use the internet i.e. browser type and operating system and sends your IP number through a whois registry e.g http://grove.ufl.edu/~bro/cgi-bin/wp.cgi and then returns the image for you.

Basically it is like looking in a internet mirror of yourself. and you can get a similar signature for yourself at http://www.danasoft.com. I would have removed mine anyway as it cost $19 to keep using it anyway.

However it is not worth it if only one person is upset by it as I have already stepped on toes because I use a [acronym:6cd17968c9="Under Gravel Filter"]UGF[/acronym:6cd17968c9]. Therefore I have removed it.

I liked it too and was shocked by the message.

I can understand people being upset if their IP number and details were being published or broadcasted.

But I did not account for people being upset at seeing their own IP number and details. It is like being upset at looking in the mirror but I do not want to upset, even one person, especially since I do feel that this is a good website. So it is removed.

[acronym:ad017e74b0="Laughing out loud"]LOL[/acronym:ad017e74b0], yeah! I'm more bothered by the [acronym:ad017e74b0="Under Gravel Filter"]UGF[/acronym:ad017e74b0]. It is startling for some as they think you are taking a personal interst in their information even though it is quite public. No harm, no foul.

Personally (scowling aside at other aquarists) I LIKE under-gravel filters. They work like a charm!! Back in the 'old' days they were the only kinds of filters I would use and never had a problem.

I was more intrigued than worried about the message, and found the site for it, but alas, no code. It can tell when my wife's mac is on the site, but it can't distinguish the OS.
