AFAIK there are no poisionous spiders where I live. Today swelling is mostly gone, pain is subsided and I have 2 really ugly welts that haven't broken through the skin yet. Yeah for home remidies and old wives tales.

When I was reading up on spider bites I was horrified at the kind of spiders some of you all have to content with. Shudder.

We have a TON of hobo spiders around our house every summer. I am terrified of them. The are pretty big and VERY fast. Also deemed "aggressive" apparently because they will bite without provocation. great eh'?

My wife thinks I’m “crazy” but I rescue every bug I find in the house (except flies) and place them outside. Karma has been on my side in that I’ve never been bitten or stun by any insect other then mosquitoes.

We have the brown recluse in VA as well but I haven’t come across one yet.

I rescue spiders...they eat the mosquitoes!!!

As for mosquitoes, I can be in the middle of a crowd and I will end up being the only one bitten....

Went to Fl or Ga to that big swamp, that I can't spell, came back, my dad counted 205 mosquito bites...

Only 205??? You must not have been there long, or been there in the dead of winter. The number of bites isn't bad so much as that you could count them later on. Mosquitoe bites don't welt up on a native.

I was in Florida and Alabama right after a hurricane a few years ago. Woah. Talk about mosquitos bites! To go outside at night you had to wear pants, long sleeve shirt, tennis shoes (no sandles), and keep your clothes tight around all open areas. If you didn't, the next morning it looks like you have the chicken pox.

I rescue spiders and put them outside. Except for this one I found on the side of the fridge last night. My sis was over and she said it looked like a brown recluse, but I'm not sure. It was clear-looking, but we couldn't see a fiddle on the back. We sprayed it with garden spray and dropped a phone book on it. I know that's cruel, but if it was a recluse, i don't want it anywhere near my home.

I was bitten last year (not a recluse, but no clue what it was) and broke out in hives all over. Had to go on Prednesone and I had the worst Prednisone Phycosis when I went off it, I will never take that stuff again, but I had itched so bad that I would have jumped into a pool of tequilla if the doc had told me to at the time.

On the rescuing spiders thing, I have such love for all living things that I just can't kill them unless I think they're a threat. Although I used a flashlight to check around the bed last night and had a hard time relaxing! Thanks Anne, I'll be stressing again tonight.
