My uncle in Canada has a whole family of spiders on the roof of his front porch. Once I got used to the idea of all those webs over my head it's actually quite nice to sit outside sans bugs.

Our basement is full of wolf spiders. They are soo aggressive if you wave your hand over them they'll jump at it. Fun to play with though. The only time I had to kill one is when it hitched a ride on my pants up to my room. I was cleaning and found a big, hairy spider leg under the bed. A few days later I see out of the corner of my eye what looks like a mouse running across my floor. Its the leg's owner back for revenge. The dog ran after it and rather than climbing the wall it turned around and jumped at the dog. She's the only one I ever squished. As long as they stay in the basement they are ok, they keep all the other spiders out of our house.
Don't ever rely on reported information to tell you where spiders live. How many times do you think an average person reports a spider? Never? Brown recluse spiders have been reported as far north as northern illinois, but I'd be willing to make a bet that you could find them in WI and even further north.

Your winters probably kill tham all! Although supposedly hobos are now found in BC and Alberta and are expected to make their way East... so watch out. My mom was bitten by something that we initially thought was a hobo in Calgary because of the necrosis that resulted, but the doctor said it would be way worse if it was a hobo... shudder.

This is NOT a good post for the arachnophobes (me) to be reading.

CANNOT imagine dealing with the wolf spiders!

Yeah for my winters then! LOL, I hate spiders with a passion. They scare me to death.

me to and I am not sure why. I am not afraid of anything else (except scorpions). love snakes and most other bugs, lizards, mice, rats, you name it... but I am really afraid of spiders.. which being in Vancouver and enjoying gardening can be a bit of a problem!

You mean except the black widows, which do range into the southern half of Saskatchewan (as well as Alberta and BC)....and since hobo spiders have at least managed Nothern Idaho and Southern Alberta, they may be in Saskatchewan, too.

To be fair, virtually all true spiders are venomous, it is just that few are significantly venomous to humans.

Ummm thanks for that info. You know what they say, ignorance is bliss. LOL. I didn't even know we had black widows.

We have black widows and brown recluses here. A friend was bitten by a brown recluse, and had a bad reaction. Went to the hospital, and now has a permanent limp. Really messed his leg up.
