I rather enjoy fishing. Not much luck but I try. Primarily I do salt water using artificial baits either wade fishing or off one of the piers in the Tampa Bay area. Primarily I release about 97% of what I catch. I enjoy the fight and let them live to fight another day. But it is always nice to have the occassional pompano, grouper, or sheepshead.

fishin'

I fish when I have the time which isn't very often. I release anything that isn't bound for the table. The company I work for sends us to Fla once a year for a charter trip. I always come back from there with a cooler full of amberjack, grouper, and snapper. My favorite type of fishing is shark fishing though. I agree that nothing should be hunted or caught for a trophy.

I fish as much as my schedule allows. 85% catch and release, eat the rest. Even put the inedible parts in my garden (good fertilizer).

Enjoyfish, you throw back STRIPERS??? To me they are one of the tastiest fish out there! (except ones over 15 pounds or so, they are tough and gamey). I mostly catch 2-8 pounders so I keep my limit of them (2 per day here in Maryland).

Anywqay, glad to see that so far no one is completely against sport fishing.

Generally, it is not a good idea to catch "wild" fish and put them into your tank. The fish has grown to whatever size his enviornment allows, which is a heck of a lot larger than your aquarium. The stress factor and water conditions are normally enough to kill them.

I have been fishing for my whole life. If I am freshwater fishing im 100% catch and release but in SW, no way. I am normally in a boat or surf fishing for flounder and sheepshead. I am not going to put a percentage down because it all depends on what I catch. Some days it may be 100% keep, some 100% release. I am not against hunting either not just because I do it but becuase I know that some people have to do it to stay alive. I do get agitated when the meat is not put to good use, but almost always it is.

In Myrtle Beach, SC the peir I normally go to has a huge tank behind the counter, and they have just regular old spot in them. There is also a tiny baby flounder. Every morning they siphon out about 50% of the water onto the sand out a window, and then turn on a spicket and fill it back up, the spicket is straight from the ocean. I think its grody and nasty, but thats me.

I thought about doing that, but I just couldn't find an economical way for a 1500 mile lead from the ocean

If fish only grow to the enviroment they are in, then why can a tank raised tang out grow a tank its in. I think that is just a old myth. I think fish grow at the same rate, to the same size no matter what body of water they are in. In some cases they grow larger in tanks due to the availablity of food. JMO.
