Maybe because I am a woman, or whatever reason, I am against sport fishing and hunting. Even if you catch and release, there is a good chance the fish won't make it.

It is a totally different story if you are fishing to fill the freezer to feed your family....

Just my very unpopular, I am sure, opinion.

I have no problem with your opinion, everyone has one, but you are mistaken about something.

Now it does depend on species, but of the most popular sportfish, bass, walleye, bluegill, stripers, Flounder, bluefish, (I could go on for quite awhile), many studies of C&R have been done. Mortality rates for C&R are usually pretty low, under 10%. Responsible anglers conserve our species for future generations.

On a side note to this, our fishing(and hunting) license fees preserve massive quanitities of parks and natural areas for everyone to enjoy, not just anglers.

PS

I know some darn good women "fishermen", not a lot, but they are out there too!

I second this. As an avid fisherman and a member of B.A.S.S. (Bass Anglers Sportsman Society) I have both participated in and watched many bass tournaments in which hundreds of fish have been caught, kept in a livewell, passed thru a weighing process, placed in a holding tank, and then returned to the water with not a single loss of a fish.
