Sport Fishing
Okay, I want a different perspective...
I have heard both sides of the sport fishing argument 1. It's cruel and imhumane 2. It's no big deal and does some positive effects against overcrowding I am an avid sports fisherman, believing in 100% catch and release, but I want to know what other people think.

I am curious how if its 100% catch and release how it could help control overpopulation?
I am 100% in favor of fishing/hunting for not just the sport but also for the use of the meat. Personally I do not like the person who hunts/fish's just for the trophy. The least someone could do is to give the meat way to the soup kitchens if there is no interest in keeping and using it themselves. With that said I answered the bottom choice. As I am not aganst the idea of fishing/hunting.

There wasnt a choice for me. I voted Im not a fisherman, but not against it.
I dont fish enough to call my self a fisherman, but I do fish on occation. One time I caught a 5 lb large mouth bass. I was told it would make a good mount, but I cleaned it and me and a friend had a good meal. |

100% Catch and release does not help control the population, but the majority of fishing does. I was presenting the 2 major camps and then my policy.

Oh ok.
I thought you was saying you have hard people say catch and release is cruel or it controls the population. Personally I guess it shows I am from the country when I say that I like to eat what I catch/kill.

I am an avid fisherman (taking tomorrow off as a matter of fact to fish) and I personally practice catch and release about 95% of the time. I do not believe it is cruel and inhumane if the fish are handled properly and amoungst the people I fish/associate with great expense and care is taken to handle these fish properly. I have also seen the effects of over population in a body of water, which IMHO is inhumane, such as large die offs do to a food source shortage. Thanks for the topic Bearfan!!

Iv been fishing longer than iv been keeping them for pets . I catch and release most of the time. Because most of the fish i catch dont taste very good . Ill keep the flounder and throw back the bass . But for those people who think its wrong to fish . I can only say its worse to keep them in tanks . I mean iv kill plenty of them from my own stupidity and im positive everyone else has to . Now with that said id like to point out one thing commercial net fishing is not so nice . what they do is pull up the nets separate the fish and the ones they dont want they dump back in the water an hour later . 25% most the time . There chances of living are slim

I voted option C, as although I'm not a fisherman, I see no problem in the sport, particularly the catch and release method. Fish as a food is what keeps the worlds markets and food industry going round, so I don't consider it cruel or inhumane one bit.
Netting Dolphins and similar creatures .. thats a different matter ..
