Summer jobs
Hey, I am looking for a summer job (I'm in highschool) and I'd love to work at a petstore or somthing because all my life I've had animals (snakes, cats, rats, hamsters, fish, etc.) If anyone knows of any ideas or at least any chains that accept offers for a kid my age let me know,

Well I think if your 14 you can work with a workers permit. If your 16 you dont need such a permit. If your at least 14 I would go around to some of the local shops and ask to speak to a manager and then iquire with them as to if there would be a potental for employment.

Aaron hit it on the head. I did just that ^^^. I went to the LFS, told him what I wanted to do but explained my age thing. I went and got a workers permit and if they did not keep postponing my dang interveiw I might have a job.

I have the forms for a work permit, but I need an employer to want to hire me and fill them out first. The petstore where I live requires you to be 16 to work. I think I might check with petsmart but I havn't seen kids my age working there, and since theyre a large "veery profesional" company I'm not sure if theyd hire a 14 year old. Since I have experience with animals in general I might get this job at a vertrinary clinic with the cats and dogs and stuff. Thatd be cool

Hey Conan,
You can also check to see if any aquariums or zoos in your area have high school intern programs. They are generally unpaid (boo!), but think of the fun time and experience you would gain. I know that in Chicago the Lincoln Park Zoo and the Shedd both have internships and volunteer positions open. You might have to be 16, but it's something to check out. These things look great on a resume - never too soon to start thinking about that!
