From what I have heard, from people that have actually been out to see some of these builds, is that there is significant die-off after they stock the tanks. There are pictures out there that show this. I can't imagine any expert would say to completely stock your tank all at once.

were there dead fish in the pics?

There were actually no fish or substantially less than what they showed the tank stocked with when the show aired.

I don't question their ability to build good-quality tanks. I just think that instantly stocking a tank, cycled or not, is a bad idea. Putting fish together that are not compatible is not wise either. If others disagree, I am fine with that.

They don't really portray the reef tanks as easy as a goldfish tank because all of there corals in the tanks are fake.... It is a good show I love watching it. It does suck if there is mass die off but does anyone actually know if they film all in one day or not the shows could be filmed weeks apart

i could not stand those fake corals in my tank. i wonder if they ever do any reef tanks?

yea they've done one PROPER reef tank from what ive seen... its in one of their later episodes. they built a large corner tank in a couple's house. this time they did it properly it look like.... in a way lol

they put proper live rock/coral/lighting and the fish looked semi-compatible. rom what I saw in the footage it didn't look that overstocked, they showed a CUC and a couple of gobies and I think there were a few tangs.

First time I've watched one of their episodes where they don't cram all the fish in there and looked like a non-fake aquarium.

I had been gone a while, good to see nothing has changed since I left - still the same type of threads complaining about these guys. If my count is correct, this holds the title of "tanked" thread #27!

I watched a couple of episodes today after I saw this thread. Seems like any other show of this sort. It would be boring if Pawn Stars spent the hour running the everyday operations of a pawn shop.

In one of the episodes they very quickly mentioned acclimating the fish in trash cans before adding them. I'm sure they do a lot more that doesn't make it past the editor.

No kidding  I'm tired of seeing these threads!

No kidding! So sick of these threads about them; but at the same time I agree with people complaining about them...I saw an episode few months ago they did a sick tank for Tracy Morgan's Octopus! They took so much care of that thing it was great! They then turned around and gave his daughter a 5. Yes 5gal fish tank with 12 yes 12 gold fish...I'm not a huge gold fish fan but come on I wouldn't put 12 ants in a 5 gal. Bucket

Haha... I was just logging on to start a thread about this show and ask everyone's opinion about how long they thought the fish lasted. Haha... Glad I'm not alone. I love watching the tanks but wow, the algae blooms and dead fish have to be in huge amounts.

I believe these guys are construction guys that don't know anything about tanks or fish.

And to reply to an earlier post... Simply acclimating a fish in a trash can can't maintain the complexities of a tank in the hands of these newbs they're giving the tanks to.

I meant that as an example of the things that get glossed over, or edited out. I was just checking out their site. They look like they do some really cool very professional stuff. Again, these shows aren't meant to be true examples of how a business runs. I don't think any Pawn shop runs like the show Pawn stars.

All good. I wasn't really coming down on you. I'm more fearful for the tanks being maintained after they walk away.

I like your post, it is about time someone said something. Just because they are good at buidling aquariums does not mean they are good aquarium keepers. It is sad to see all the fish they put in tanks that don't pair well together and how they NEVER put in live rock ( I have seen it ONE time.)

The show is cut to fit the 1 hour slot. I think they do acclimate the fish and cycle tanks. It doesn't show this as it would be boring to watch. They clearly know what they are doing as they are a huge company. Yes showing over stocked tanks is wrong but more fool to the people who go out and start a hobby without researching first.

I would guess that some of these show tanks have a lot of trickery behind the scenes nobody wants to confess too. Those big casino tanks could have back room tanks were stressed fish can be cycled out to recover, or maybe they just accept a lot of die off, and restock them a lot.

They do have bacteria in a bottle that they add I know that stuff can be unreliable and they have so many tanks I would think they would have some seeded media and they have shown the bio balls that they grow themselves with bacteria in them

What you guys see in the tank when it's aired isn't the final stocking. They put a crap ton of fish to show off the tank. Then they remove most of them.

Also, the tanks all get paid to be maintained.

So yes, it gives the wrong idea to newbies. But it's not like they're killing as much fish as you think. The only tank I know of that went badly was the gumball tank. The chiller couldn't handle the heat.

These threads are so comical, while all you "fish experts" are judging them these guys are running a multi-million dollar operation creating aquariums most here couldn't afford if they wanted to. So until you actually get the correct information and stop speculating what happened I'd stop passing judgment on someone who are clearly helping bring our hobby mainstream.

I agree except for the expensiveness. When people have like 5 29g biocubes that has to be like 30,000 dollars... Some of these people are probably rich.
